guys had to settle for lollipops instead of the traditional cigar, because her dad isn't a serious smoker. The name

TRAVEL NOTES:
Houston, Texas
Saturday, August 7, 2004:
A visit was made to the Downtown Aquarium.
Sunday, August 8, 2004:
My sister, Martha performed with her group the Houston Ebony Opera Guild;
the group presented a concert of operatic excerpts, called "Opera Gems". Following the concert there was a reception
to greet the singers.
Monday, August 9, 2004:
I went to the Houston Zoo located in Hermann Park. Lunch was eaten
at the Macaw Cafe. I visited the aquarium, bird gardens, sea lions, the duck pond, elephants, giraffes, zebras, reptiles
and koalas. A bird show that allowed audience participation was held in the Brown Education Center. The birds were
tame and flew directly overhead while performing tasks when prompted by staff like retrieving items or speaking to the audience.
Tuesday, August 10, 2004: I went to see Aunt Bonnie, who has been
ill. Then paid a visit to my niece Kimberly and her family, who were all worn out from doctor's visits.
Wednesday, August 11, 2004: Shopped and had lunch at the Galleria
Mall; the mall is made up of shops, restaurants, and an ice skating rink.
Thursday, August 12, 2004: My brother, Mark invited me to the Museum
of Fine Arts, Houston. The exhibition we saw was, Inverted Utopias: Avant-Garde Art in Latin America. I
was impressed with art objects that created different visual images when you moved in various directions in relation
to the art.
We had a scruptious lunch at Luby's, a cafeteria that has good eats.
Next we went to see the exhibition the Menil Collection.
Friday, August 13, 2004:
My brother, John invited me over for a friend of the family's birthday party
at his home in Windsor Park.
Saturday, August 14, 2004:
My brother-in-law, Jay and sister, Martha hosted my birthday celebration
at their home in Sugarland, Texas. My family and their friends made the party a very happy occasion, as we also watched
on TV the Texans play football with the Dallas Cowboys.
Sunday, August 15, 2004: My official birthday.
My sister, Martha invited me to church at McGee Chapel. The service
was divine and the church was celebrating it's 128th anniversary. She and Jay treated my mother and me to lunch at Ryan's a
buffet style restaurant with steaks to order from the grill.
Later my cousin, Hope invited me to the Shrine of the Black Madonna to a
Jazz Vespers. I enjoyed hearing the musicians and the informal reception.
Tampa, Florida
Monday, August 16, 2004
I stayed two nights in Tampa. Most of the time spent in the city was
scouting around the area to gather information using it as a tour spot for a future vacation. Being close to Orlando
and St.Petersburg makes it an ideal place to unwind in a subtropical setting. I learned a good place to shop is the International
Plaza and Bay Street. This is an upscale mall, with several restaurants for dining, and has a new hotel called the Renaissance
Tampa Hotel International Plaza. Three shops that sell unique merchandise are Nicholson House, Z-Gallerie, and Accents
and Gifts. Maybe next time in Tampa, I can visit at another location, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Musical Resources
I found an excellent reference to classical music that list some of the most
prominent works of composers. It'll make choosing classical music to own a little easier although we all have different
tastes. The book is entitled, The Listener's Companion: The Great Composers and Their Works, by Nicolas
Slonimsky.
To view the contents of the textbook The Listener's Companion, click on the link below; I'll also use this site as a
classical reference to choose music to listen to in the future that appeal to my tastes.
